{"id":9,"date":"2025-04-29T17:44:19","date_gmt":"2025-04-29T17:44:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/musicmeld.site\/?p=9"},"modified":"2025-04-29T17:44:19","modified_gmt":"2025-04-29T17:44:19","slug":"roman-style-mosaic-unveiled-at-sea-watching-spot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/musicmeld.site\/index.php\/2025\/04\/29\/roman-style-mosaic-unveiled-at-sea-watching-spot\/","title":{"rendered":"Roman-style mosaic unveiled at sea watching spot"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"sc-3b6b161a-0 dEGcKf\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">A Roman-style mosaic has been unveiled at a sea life viewing station on the Scarborough coast.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">The artwork, by Turner Prize winner Jeremy Deller and mosaicist Coralie Turpin, measures 27.5ft (8.4m) long and 20ft (6m) wide and is a permanent installation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">It spans the floor of a new sea watching station on Marine Drive, which is a renovated 1990s seaside shelter with free telescopes for viewing marine life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Deller said: &#8220;I wanted to make a piece of public art that didn&#8217;t get in the way of the view because there&#8217;s a great view here.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"sc-3b6b161a-0 dEGcKf\" data-component=\"text-block\">\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">&#8220;It&#8217;s meant to be almost invisible until you stand on it and I like the idea of that,&#8221; Deller said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">&#8220;The idea is sometimes the easy bit, making something that is thousands of hours of work is the difficult part.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Alongside her team, Turpin hand cut up to 300,000 pieces of tile to put the mosaic together, which took six months to complete.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">&#8220;It looks like it has been discovered during an archaeological dig,&#8221;
